About Me

My photo
Hello World... My name is Laurence Cambe. I am a student of the Northern Marianas College and now in my senior year. I was born and raised on this tiny island called Saipan. Although, it may seem so far away from the real world, I believe it is one of the most beautiful places to be on. I am now a Full Time Educator at William S. Reyes Elementary School, although, I am looking forward to my graduation this May. I hope you enjoy my blog...

Flat Stanley Project

Here is a slide show of pictures of me and my students working on the Flat Stanley Project. For my slide show I used picturetrail. It was very easy to use. Very user friendly. I did not have problems with uploading and creating the slide show. The template that I used was just one from the many provided. For those who love to create slide shows and share pictures, picturetrail is a great site to use. So, here it goes and I hope you enjoy once again... ;)

Flat Stanley Video Share

Here is a my video of my Flat Stanley Project. I was able to work on the video using jumpcut. With my Flat Stanley Project I got to work with the 3rd grade class of Mrs. Sarah Serrano at Oleai Elementary School. This was one project I really got to enjoy. I love the batch of students I was able to work with. At the same time, Mrs. Sarah was very helpful and welcoming. She really gave me the time I needed. Moreover, the students were very attentive and eager to do this project. They were excited to learn who Flat Stanley was and to actually create and send him out.
As I conducted my Flat Stanley Project I really wished I had more time to actually do the project. I hope I could be able to do it within a whole semester. I also wanted to integrat more activities within this project. There are lots of things I could have incorporated within this project but time was what I was lacking. However, I will honestly be able to do what I want
when I get my own classroom. :D So here goes the video.. Please enjoy!

Electronic Web-Based Professional Portfolio

Here is my professional portfolio. It consists of just my resume. However, I will be adding to my portfolio as I go on through my education journey. Moreover, I agree with Mrs. Campo and I find this useful especially when applying for a job.

The use of Technology in the K-8 Science Curriculum (Teachback)

Here is my presentation. My topic was on the use of technology in the K-8 Science Curriculum. This experience was great! It was my first time to actually do a teach back through the use of technology and within long distance from the instructor. I admit I was nervous to do this teach back because I did not totally know how to present such information without seeing the people whom I am presenting too.
Through this experience I have learned that technology can be integrated not only in the science curriculum but also within the other entire curriculum. I have learned that with the use of technology we are able to enhance student learning and have students become more engaged and motivated in learning. However, I have also learned that technology has its failures and through trial and error we are able to become knowledgeable in the better ways of using technology.

Rubric Assessment Tool

The grading rubric I created was to be used on the Friendly Letter Writing for the Flat Stanley Project. I used http://rubistar.4teachers.org to create my rubric and I thought it was so easy. I like how the site was FREE, how it provided many different ready made rubrics, how the criteria’s were already made and all you had to do was select which ones you wanted to include into your rubric. I also like how the criteria’s were provided along with the points. It was so EASY EASY EASY. I had no difficulty working with rubistar in which I don’t think I would use any other site to create rubrics.

Moreover, the rubric that I created on rubistar would be a great way to assess my students on their letter writing. Rubrics are an easy way for students to follow instructions of the teacher’s expectations and an easy way for students to earn their grade. It is one easy way to grade the students’ works.

Flat Stanley Crossword Puzzle

Wow! This is so amazing. It was my first time to use excel and I have never thought that it would be that easy to create a crossword puzzle in less than an hour. I have used much different free software to create puzzles but never excel. I really love how we could use this software anywhere even without the use of the Internet. With the use of software in the classroom, and infusing it into the curriculums students are able to use different software to create assignments, educational games, and activities in which they are able to recall and continue learning. Students are able to do higher-level thinking and the retention of what they learn will become more meaningful when they are able to apply and use what they have learned.

Further, I believe that parents should play an important part in their child’s learning. It is important that they are informed about what is going on in their child’s class because it shows a sense of them having responsibility for their child’s education and so that they are able to help their child with assignments, projects, etc.

Lastly, I found this activity really helpful in learning the use of excel. This project does not only teach the students how to use excel but also teach them to learn vocabulary words and the different aspects of the lesson you will use it for. This activity is also very helpful because it also allows the students to use the actual product that they create.

WebQuest

Here's the link to our Webquest: http://zunal.com/webquest.php?user=8079

Our project for this week focused on Webquests. A Webquest is a research activity in which students collect information, where most of the information comes from the world wide web by the necessary links provided.
My fellow group members for this project were Diane and Clarissa (Clare). We chose our topic to focus on the Solar System. We chose the topic because we wanted it to focus on an area that children have an idea of. The Solar system was a choice because we thought it is an idea that has been talked about for many long centuries. It has brought on many changes till today and still scientists and researchers continue to do research and findings. Our objective for this Webquest is for students to learn more about the different planets and their surroundings and to learn how to work do collaborative and individual group work. The Webquest focus is for students to also have the opportunity to do research using technology.
This Webquest will help improve the students learning by helping them gain an experience on how to use technology and incorporate it in their different strategies of learning. This Webquest will help improve the students’ skills in using a computer and the different related skills needed to operate the Internet in looking for important facts and information.
The most important lesson I learned from this activity is that as a future teacher it wouldn’t be hard for me to incorporate technology and having to spend so much money to buy software or materials to get a lesson relayed to students.
Furthermore, what I like about the web-based online tool we used for our Webquest is that it was very user-friendly. Zunal.com was a great tool because it provided the step-by-step instructions in order to complete the Webquest. The only downfall of zunal.com was to use word to fit the size and how you wanted your text to look and then cutting and pasting it into the template on zunal.com. I also dislike how we didn’t get a preview of what we have done so far; rather we had to publish it first.
Lastly, I really learned a lot from this Webquest project. I really think zunal.com is a great web-based online tool. However, if I were to do another Webquest, I would want to do more research on other interesting topics to focus on. I would want to do web searches on different student and teacher links that will be useful to the theme I will focus on.

Engrade.com

Engrade was such a BLAST!! So easy to use, I didn’t even break a sweat. I like how it’s offered for FREE and how user friendly it is. This is such a great way for teachers to keep student grades and for parents to be involved with their child’s assignments and grades. Further, I like how Engrade takes away the hassle of the old grade book where teachers have to input grades by writing them and having to show students their grade by covering other students grade using a separate sheet of paper.

I love how it creates a student grade sheet with all the assignments and grades for each student that makes it easy to print and keep confidential from others. Moreover, I like how you just have to enter the grades and Engrade does all the calculating for you.
On the other hand, I think the only reason why this software wouldn’t be useful to teachers is if they do not have an access to a computer and if the data is lost by accidentally deleting it. Lastly, Engrade would be great software to use, like I have mentioned; it encourages parents to get involved with their child’s assignments and grades. It keeps students records confidential and it is easy to access. As a future teacher, I am looking forward to using Engrade with my students’ grades.
